How Often Should You Clean Your Jewelry?

We all love sparkly jewelry .. but it is hard to notice, or even realize when it becomes dull. In this week’s blog, I’m going to discuss how often you should be cleaning your jewelry to keep it looking as amazing as when you first bought it! I will also give you some tips and tricks on how to keep your jewelry clean at home!

With dirt and dust, lotions and soaps dulling your jewels, it’s extremely important to clean your jewelry regularly to ensure it keeps its shine and sparkle. Luckily, cleaning your jewelry at home can be very easy and inexpensive! To keep up with your jewelry’s shine, you should be cleaning your jewelry weekly to every couple of weeks. I know this may seem unnecessary for everyone to achieve weekly, but there are also ways to prevent your jewelry from getting as dirty and muted!

Some tips to keep your jewelry dazzling:

- Taking your rings and bracelets off while doing your makeup, washing your hands, putting on lotion, or applying beauty products is a great way to minimize grime and prevent your jewels from getting even dirtier!

- Another tip is to remove your jewelry when swimming. Even if the jewelry is waterproof, chlorine and saltwater are very strong and can damage any jewelry!

- Applying your perfume before you put on your jewelry is very important.

Don’t have silver polisher on hand? No worries, you can use items that you most definitely already have in your household. Dish soap is one of the best all-purpose jewelry cleaners that works wonders for silver jewelry and gemstones, such a moissanite! Mix a few drops of dish soap into warm water and dip your cloth into the mixture - You then can gently clean your jewels with the cloth and rinse! For gemstones, you can use a soft-bristled toothbrush dipped in a mixture of dish soap and seltzer water. The carbonation helps to loosen dirt and debris that may be in your gemstones!

Overall, if you want to keep your amazing jewelry dazzling, take the preventative measures listed above and give your pieces a weekly clean with some dish soap! Who knew cleaning your jewelry could be so simple!
